OdISSea mission with Frank De Winne

Belgian experiments

The B.USOC also collected the technical requirements of the Belgian User Home Bases (UHB) and made the interface between them and ESA to allow the installation in the UHBs of all necessary technical means.

A lot of time was spent on the testing of the interfaces with the ESA and NASA centres:

  • data reception,
  • complete end-to-end ProMISS commanding,
  • voice and video transmissions,
  • timelines monitoring,
  • Operation Change Requests generation.

After all these tests, the B-USOC was officially recognized as "Mission Operation Centre" by the final Certification of Flight Readiness agreement. One day of familiarization was organised at ESTEC, one other day was organised at the B.USOC and half a day was organised by the B.USOC itself. Three periods of simulations were experienced and served as an excellent test for both applications and operations. B.USOC wrote and helped to write many mission documents : flight procedures, contingency procedures, ground procedures, B.USOC Handbook,...

The information-promotion cell valorised the mission by creating a video film and by developping a Website about the Belgian experiments on board.
