Ongoing Operational Support

October 24, 2003 - Spanish Soyuz Mission Cervantes

Just like almost every day of this week in the International Space Station (ISS), studying the effects of space conditions on bacteria continious with the treatement of Message2 samples.

Astronaut Pedro Duque also performs the Belgian experiment Neurocog. With Neurocog scientists want to study the effect of space flight conditions on the perception and the process of astronauts memorizing the orientation and location when performing investigations in a virtual environment.

Pedro Duque first free-floats wearing the virtual reality headset, and then remains in a fixed position while performing the experiment.

Neurocog scientist Joseph McIntyre wears the virtual reality headset at the B.USOC to acquire data which are compared later on to the results of astronaut Pedro Duque in the ISS.

Furthermore the European astronaut takes care of the Promiss2 experiment. Goal is a good understanding of protein crystal growth processes.
